Gene of Popularity

Alexandra Burt, PhD, of Michigan State University asserts that "The idea is that your genes predispose you to certain behaviors, and those behaviors elicit different kinds of social reactions from others," Burt said in a news release. "And so what's happening is your genes are to some extent driving your social experiences."

Studies of a gene that affects brain levels of the chemical messenger serotonin (the 5HT2A serotonin-receptor gene) are supporting this theory.

Sightist assembled more than 200 college men with an average age of 19 into two groups. One group met together to plan a party on a strict budget; the other met to plan a party for which the sky was the limit. Immediately after the planning session, individuals rated their peers on popularity. They also gave a DNA sample.

"So the gene predisposed them to rule-breaking behavior, and their rule-breaking behavior made them more popular," Burt says.

Genetic Research News

Last researches have showed that a genetic test might determine which sports, like sprinting or football, or endurance sports like distance running, or a combination of the two, maximally suit the talents of your 2 ½-year-old kids?

“I could see how some people might think the test would pigeonhole your child into doing fewer sports or being exposed to fewer things, but I still think it’s good to match them with the right activity,” Ms. Campiglia, 36, said as she watched a toddler class at Boulder Indoor Soccer in which Noah struggled to take direction from the coach between juice and potty breaks.

“I think it would prevent a lot of parental frustration,” she said.

It was discovered the link between ACTN3 and athletics. Actually the process of testing is very easy. Dr. Roth called ACTN3 “one of the most exciting and eyebrow-raising genes out there in the sports-performance arena,” but he said that any test for the gene would be best used only on top athletes looking to tailor workouts to their body types.

Most Popular Diets

As I see there are several the most popular diets in the world today. First of all this is Atkins Diet Weight Loss Program with low-carb dieting of course. Using the diet you can eat all the protein and fat you want and still shed pounds.

The Zone diet is based on specific food groups: 40 percent carbs, 30 percent fat, 30 percent protein. As a former scientist, Sears devotes considerable time to discussion of the science on which he based his theory. Put simply, the Zone is a "metabolic state in which the body works at peak efficiency," and that state is created by eating a set ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fat.

The Perricone Prescription diet is a total plan for weight management, youthful looking skin, energy and a clear mind.

The Life Choice Diet is a low-fat vegetarian way of eating with less than 10% calories from fat, this way of eating is very different from the typical American diet.

Weight Watchers diet is the way with its innovative Points system, supportive meetings, online program and new plans. Actually you can eat anything you want, but must stay inside your daily point limit.

Macrobiotic diet includes ten progressively restrictive stages. The last stage of Ohsawa's macrobiotic diet consisted only of brown rice and water. Due to its extreme restriction, Ohsawa's version of the macrobiotic diet is no longer recommended by macrobiotic diet counselors.

You can easely find any information about each of them to try to change yourself. Just be careful take your doctor advice before you start to.

Medical Bills

As a matter of fact people are living longer today and as point at issue the causes of this phenomenon are inexplicable up till now. A long healthy life is real gift based on right genes and good habits. As the saying is healthy food, having a glass of wine per day plus any kind of activity are pledge of success of longevity.

Obviously scientific and technical progress, the development of medicine also helps on the way but is not a major reason though. However if you want to be health you should pay for your quality medical care. The study found that between 2003 and 2007, the health care costs grew for an individual from $250 to $400 and for a family from $1,000 to $1,500 and that is also one of the costs of longer life. Often medical debt issues become critical for many of us. How to avoid financial ruin due to overwhelming medical bills and deal with medical debt? How to dispute medical bills? All these and many others questions have definite answers. Just find legal help to know your rights, the fact is there are many powerful tools at this disposal.

Holiday Health

Last time, we were talking about the holidays. It's always difficult not to indulge with so many treats and parties around the holidays. Here are some tips for staying fit, or at least not expanding, during the holiday season.

1. If there are a lot of treats around your office, try to avoid them as much as possible. If you get a box of chocolates from someone, for instance, and you know you'll dig into it if it comes home - don't bring it home! No, you aren't being rude. Find someone to whom you can give it so that the giver doesn't know that you've given it away. Your body will thank you.

2. Continue to exercise. Just because it's the holiday season doesn't mean that you stop working out. Now, maybe you can even step it up a bit, work off some extra calories and strip that fat.

3. Watch carbs. While watching the football game, try not to munch on pretzels and breads. Reach for vegetables, fruits and proteins as much as you can.

Ways to Prevent a Skin.

It's interesting, United States researchers have discovered that the combination of daily exercise and a cup of coffee may help prevent skin cancer.

The team of researchers found that compared with the UVB-exposed control group, the caffeine drinkers showed an increase of about 95 per cent in UVB-induced apoptosis, the exercisers showed a 120 per cent increase, while the mice that were both drinking and exercising showed a nearly 400 per cent increase.

One of the study's authors Dr. Allan Conney says if apoptosis takes place in a sun-damaged cell, its progress toward cancer will be aborted.

The team say drugs which induce apoptosis are currently being researched as a method of preventing different types of cancer, but the combination of caffeine and exercise appears to have a similar protective effect.

Dr. Conney says the cumulative difference seen in the caffeine-drinking runners is possibly due to some form of synergy between the two factors.

Coffee is not the only beverage to contain caffeine, but it does contain the most and recent research has found that while those with high blood pressure, and pregnant women should limit their caffeine consumption, coffee may reduce the risk of developing gallstones, kidney stones and colorectal cancer.

Interesting though the research is, more is needed to establish if the findings are similar in humans; people are advised to use adequate sun protection when exercising in the sun.

How I relax after work

Hi guys! I would like to tell you how to relax after a long working day. Of course there are lots of opportunities. Most of people do sports especially swimming which is really great. When getting into the swimming pool you forget all your problems. Some people even say that water can absorb all your negative emotions and feelings and of course help to overcome bad effects of stress.

But as for me I prefer spa. I have been looking for a spa salon for many years which would suit me most and I think finally I have found it. I consider day spa in LA to be the best of all. Only hear I can relax and regain health. I have become a regular visitor of this place because of the friendly atmosphere and nice service.

Another relaxation tool for me is yoga. I took up yoga two years ago when I had back pain and my doctor gave me a piece of advice to take some yoga classes and even gave me a telephone number of his coach. First of all I bought all yoga appliances which are really great. I even managed to get a custom yoga mat where they printed my photo. So I advise everybody to take up yoga and visit spa at least once a month to relax after work.

Natural Medicine

Very often we use complementary natural medicine such as different kinds of herbs, even preferring alternative medicine to modern medicine and sometimes we have all reasons to do that. An herb is plant and we use the plant or part of it for its scent, flavor and therapeutic properties of course. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as many as 4 billion people, or 80 percent of the earth’s population, are estimated to use a form of herbal medicine in their health care. No doubt herbal medicine is a large part of naturopathic, homeopathic, Native American Indian, Ayurvedic, and traditional oriental medicine.

People which want to improve their health use herbal medicine as a dietary supplements, because herbs have been used for a long time for claimed health benefits. They are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts and fresh or dried plants.

Just don’t forget befour you start to use it

Consult your doctor first
Dont take a bigger dose than the label recommends
Take it under the guidance of a trained medical professional
Be especially cautious if you are pregnant or nursing

Why should we reject eyelasses?

Why do people wear eyeglasses? The answer is simple - they have a bad eyesight and unfortunately they can't live without prescription spectacles. Actually, they can live but the most of the benefits may be unreachable for them if they do not see well. Even a blurred image of your lover will not attract your anymore and the things that were once sharp and clear (provided your eyesight has worsened) do not bring you such a feeling as they used to. Anyway, there are always many wayouts of such a situation.

The first thing that comes up to your mind can be a surgical interference but as a matter of fact not all the operations end successfully and there is always risk to lose your eyesight at all! Besides, eyesight operation costs a substantial sum of money and the majority of people can not afford this.

Wearing lenses is really a step forward in comparison with wearing eyeglasses as they are practically invisible and they do not "spoil face". Besides when you are wearing lenses you can also
buy sunglasses and enjoy the sun like all other people do. But lenses demand a careful and timely attention: a holder and a solution.

Simple plastic and cheap metal eyeglasses are still very popular today and not because they are really cheap in comparison with other solutions for your eyesight but also because they are practical, need minimal attention and if you choose the right glasses for your face - it won't spoil your look, may even make it better!

Source of ‘optimism’ found in the brain

Two regions of the brain linked to optimism have been discovered by researchers, newscientist.com reported. Brain scans obtained using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) revealed that reflecting on both past and future events activated the amygdala and the (rACC) areas, both of which sit deep in the middle of the brain. However, positive events – and particularly those imagined in the future – elicited a significantly bigger brain response in these regions than reflecting on negative events. The identification of the sites that signal positive thinking could shed light on the causes of depression, they say.

The US team says that the act of imagining a positive future event – such as winning an award or receiving a large sum of cash – activates two brain areas known as the amygdala and the rostral anterior cingulated cortex (rACC). The finding lends weight to earlier studies that suggested these brain regions malfunction in depression and hint at new ways of diagnosing the disorder.

Elizabeth Phelps at the New York University, US, and colleagues measured how optimistic 15 volunteers were using a standard questionnaire. The researchers then asked these subjects to lie in a brain scanner and reflect on one of a number of potential scenarios.

For example, in one part of the trial, subjects followed specific instructions to recall a negative event in the past, such a funeral attended in the past five years. In another part of the experiment they had to imagine what it would be like to be involved in a car crash in the near future. At other points in the study subjects had to reflect on positive events such as winning an award in the past or receiving a large sum of cash in the future.

Diabetes.

What is diabetes? First of all people can get diabetes at any age. This disease means that your blood glucose (often called blood sugar) is too high. Your blood always has some glucose in it because your body needs glucose for energy to keep you going. But too much glucose in the blood isn’t good for your health and the key to managing diabetes is knowledge. There are two major types of diabetes. In type I (Juvenile-onset or insulin - dependant) diabetes, your body completely stops producing insulin, and therefore you must take daily insulin supplement (injection) to survive. The usually develops in children or young adults, but can occur at any age. In type II (adult onset or non insulin dependent) Diabetes, your body produces insufficient insulin to properly convert food into energy. This usually occurs if one is over 40, overweight and has a family history of diabetes. And depending on the type of diabetes you get right diet, exercise and regular check-ups. So the more you know about your disease, you have better chances t keep it under control. Poorly managed diabetes can lead to a host of long term complications.

Everyone who has diabetes needs to take care of it, because after many years, the disease can lead to serious problems with your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth. But the most serious problem caused by diabetes is heart disease. When you have diabetes, you are more than twice as likely as people without diabetes to have heart disease or a stroke.

If you have diabetes, your risk of a heart attack is the same as someone who has already had a heart attack. Both women and men with diabetes are at risk. You may not even have the typical signs of a heart attack. Don’t forget about diet planning which is the cornerstone of managing diabetes. As usually the diabetic diet is an otherwise normal balanced diet, with a few modifications. A balanced diet depending on the patient’s age height, weight, physical activity and sex, will limit the number of calories to be taken each day. An ideal diet for a diabetic should contain the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, plus vitamins, minerals and micro nutrients.Take care!

Eating as a Style Life.

We are different and all our preferences, including eating are different as well. There are many eating styles one can use depending on her or his cultural tradition, subjective flavoring substances, personal habits, age and reasons of health of course. An eating style is not diet at all. It’s rather your personal preference in one or another sort of foodstuffs.

For example standard American food, as an eating style, is characterizing by emphasis on meats, eggs, dairy products, white breads, fried foods, convenience foods, processed snack foods, and sweets. Fruits and vegetables may be included, but often as a guilt-driven add-on or afterthought. This type of food as an eating style are losing greater and greater numbers of people to heart disease, cancers, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and other killers as a result.

The preference of followers of natural/ whole food is consistently toward self-prepared meals and snacks made from fresh, whole, minimally processed ingredients. They tend to eat fresh, live, raw foods and juices are esteemed highly, but variations of the natural / whole foods eating style differ on the ratios of raw to cooked foods. The goal is to eat less fat, fewer calories and this way of eating is much healthier than standard American.

There are people which are practicing the vegetarian eating which is based on abstinence from eating all forms of animal flesh. Actually there are much more variations of the vegetarian eating styles than you could suppose. Some vegetarians are junk-food junkies: they consume the SAD or low-fat SAD (see below), only minus the meat. Others are very health-conscious and eat mostly whole, natural foods along with eggs and/or dairy. For vegetarians, the line is drawn to favor those foods which do not require the killing of an animal. Vegan eating is also referred to vegetarian, but excludes all animal products entirely, including all flesh, all dairy items, all animal milks, all eggs, honey, gelatin (including gelatin capsules used for vitamins and other supplements) and any other edible thing that comes from an animal.

Also, there is well known cluster of people which could be called as chronic dieters. Their eating style is what it says. Those persons are so preoccupied with losing weight that other health concerns are exceedingly trivial. Even taste and meal enjoyment frequently lose out to weight loss efforts. Usually, a chronic dieter gains and loses weight over and over and over again, that is if they lose weight at all. Then as a rule "chronic dieter" have a wide spectrum of health problems.

Problems to Statin Use.

Researchers led by Catherine Noblet of Rouen University Hospital identified 96 cases of tendon complications from the French Pharmacovigilance database between 1990 and 2005 that were attributed to statins,sciencedaily.com reports.

The researchers were able to link the tendon problems to statin use because symptoms appeared after the statins were started and improved when the statins were stopped.

"Our study suggests that regular tendon clinical examination may be required in statin-treated patients, particularly during the first year following statin therapy initiation," the study authors said in a statement.

Tendon conditions -- including tendonitis and tendon rupture -- usually occurred within eight months of beginning statin therapy. The most common tendon affected was the Achilles tendon, with pain, swelling, warmth and stiffness the most common symptoms.

First Laboratory Developed Test. Virus PCR

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Focus Diagnostics, Inc., the infectious disease diagnostics company of Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX), today announced the first laboratory developed test in the U.S. for detecting the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus. Commercial availability of the molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test will enable physicians in the U.S. to test patients who may have contracted the virus, such as individuals returning from regions in Africa and Asia where chikungunya is endemic. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has suggested that the chikungunya virus, which caused an outbreak in Italy in 2007, has the potential to enter and spread in the U.S.

"The availability of our chikungunya virus PCR test will give healthcare providers in the U.S. an important option for identifying patients, particularly travelers, who may be infected with this potentially disabling virus," said Dr. Jay M. Lieberman, medical director, Infectious Diseases, Focus Diagnostics. "In recent years, Focus Diagnostics has brought to market new diagnostic tests that physicians can use to diagnose emerging infectious diseases, such as West Nile Virus and SARS. If chikungunya emerges in the U.S., our test could become an important tool to help mobilize an effective public health response. Chikungunya is a challenge to diagnose because its symptoms can mimic those of other diseases, including other mosquito-borne diseases, so the availability of an accurate diagnostic test is essential to minimize spread of the disease."

Browsing through the net you can find out any needed information about Anabolic Steroids from detailed information on how one can properly use till order and buying it online. Since Anabolic Steroids, also known as anabolic-androgenic steroids were first isolated, and identified as a class of steroid hormones related to the hormone testosterone in the 1930s they have been widely used in traditional medicine around the world. Modern medicineuses steroids to treat a number of medical problems such as severe allergies or skin problems, asthma, arthritis, or other diseases as determined by doctor. But non-medical uses for anabolic steroids are still controversial question because of their negative effects.

Today this is controlled substances in many countries, including the United States and banned by all major sporting bodies, such as the WTA, ITF, International Olympic Committee, FIFA, UEFA, the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, the National BasketballAssociation, the European Athletic Association and the National Football League.Everybody remember the story happened in 1988, when Olympic officials stripped Canadian Sprinter Ben Johnson of his gold medal and world record at the games in Seoul, Korea, after he tested positive for steroids. Johnson was banned from competition for life.
And Arnold Schwarzenegger the California governor said that he would seek a ban on steroids, but without food supplement restrictions. "Of course, we want to keep the sport clean. Stay Young and Healthy in every Ages.

“The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes.
Frank Lloyd Wright” (1869 - 1959)

How to stay healthy in every age this is the question that everyone wants to get answer. First of all one has to watch over the health that is right. Studies show that people who live to age 100, as a rule, feel fine into their 90s.
And maintaining a healthy weight is important step on this way. Avoid coronary heart disease and other killer conditions associated with being overweight by keeping your weight in check: Eat fruits and vegetables and limit your intake of fat and calories. Our food choices dictate our body weight, energy level and what raw materials are available to the body. Also an exercise is one of the best things you can do for your body. It helps your heart, your immune system, your mood and much more. Learning about its benefits can prove to be enough motivation to get you moving. And when you need a little extra nudge, you can rely on tips for sneaking in enough activity and actually making it enjoyable. Have a good sleep because this is essential to good health. Improving the quality of your sleep can have great impact on your health. Some research has even tied lack of sleep to weight gain, diabetes, and more. Some sleep problems are the result of habits, while others may be caused by a sleeping disorder. Don't smoke. Quitting reduces your risk of heart disease almost immediately, and over the years also reduces your chance of getting lung diseases, including cancer. Protect yourself from the sun's deadly rays. To lower your risk, try to avoid unnecessary sun exposure, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. And when you are outdoors, wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Don't drink to excess. While studies have shown that a single drink each day might not harm health — and might even have some beneficial effects — too much alcohol can damage almost every organ in the body and weaken the immune system.

To stay young and healthy as long as it possible is within your power. Keep your mind wide open all the possibilities, keep learning, keep cheerful friends, tell the people you love that you love them at every opportunity. Lost time can never be found.

Best Recipe for a Longer Life.

The European Heart Journal study asserts that a little alcohol can be healthy. Have anybody doubt of that? Everybody knows that dozen alcohols is great deal and Danish researches have confirmed that a little alcohol combined with a healthy active lifestyle may be the best recipe for a longer life. They found that people who led an active lifestyle were less prone to heart disease - but the risk was cut still further if they drank moderately.

The researchers followed nearly 12,000 men and women for nearly 20 years, during which 1,242 died from ischemic heart disease (IHD).
Overall, they found people who did not drink or take any exercise had the highest risk of heart disease - 49% higher than people who either drank, exercised or did both. When comparing people who took similar levels of exercise, they found that those who drank moderately - one to 14 units of alcohol a week - were around 30% less likely to develop heart disease than non-drinkers.

This finding held good for people who were completely inactive, through to those who took vigorous regular exercise - with the overall risk declining as exercise levels increased. Non-drinkers who were physically active had a 31%-33% reduced risk of IHD compared to physically inactive non-drinkers. But their reduced risk was dwarfed by physically active people who drank at least one drink a week - their risk was up to 50% lower than that of physically inactive non-drinkers.

However, experts warned people should not be encouraged to drink, as too much alcohol can be very damaging.

Clones Abound in Nature.

There is no secret in that that agriculture companies and farmers are ready to turn cloning into a routine tool of production agriculture at any moment. Last year the prestigious National Research Council was asked to study foods made from cloned animals. The council, an independent group that advises the government on scientific issues, concluded that no evidence that meat or milk derived from healthy cloned farm animals can harm people.

There are two main questions we need the answer. Are the animals themselves healthy, and are the products nutritionally indistinguishable from those produced by non-cloned animals?
By its very definition, a successfully cloned animal should be no different from the original animal whose DNA was used to create it.
But the technology hasn't been perfected, meaning many attempts end in birth defects. The FDA acknowledged concern about the animals' welfare in an 11-page summary of its initial review, to be posted on the agency's Web site Friday.

From Science Fiction to Fact
Clones abound in nature, including human identical twins. Scientists created artificial clones from embryo cells starting in 1894, but adult mammals weren't cloned until 1996. Farm animals have been cloned by the hundreds recently, and companies want to use them in food production. Mammal cloning milestones:

1996: Dolly the sheep (made public in 1997)
1998: Mice, cattle

Ban on Smoking.

Tobacco is the only product that kills people when used as the manufacturer intends. Globally, 1.1 billion people smoke. Each year tobacco causes some four million
premature deaths. By the year 2030, tobacco is likely to be the world’s leading cause of death and disability killing more than 10 million people annually and claiming more lives than HIV, tuberculosis, motor vehicle accidents, suicide and homicide combined. Đ•hat is the real truth about tobacco smoking.

Ireland was the first European country to implement a comprehensive ban on smoking in public places in March 2004. MPs have been voted by a huge margin to ban smoking from all pubs and private members' clubs in England at 2006. Now according to BBC smoking has banned in bars in the capitals of France and Germany. Eight German states, including Berlin, have ushered in 2008 declaring their pubs and restaurants smoke-free. Almost a third of Germans smoke and the authorities in Berlin have decided not to enforce the restrictions actively for the first six months. In France, a law forbidding smoking in public places has now been extended to bars, cafes and hotels. The French health ministry allowed smokers a 24-hour "grace" period for the New Year festivities in a gesture of "tolerance". By the way any smoker caught flouting the ban thereafter can be fined up to 450 euros (£332; $662), while those who turn a blind eye to smokers on their premises can be fined up to 750 euros.

Greece has the highest proportion of adult smokers in Europe - 45%
Norway followed soon after, but allowed a smokers' corner in workplaces
Italy banned workplace smoking in January 2005 and Naples and Verona have made smoking illegal in public parks
Belgium allows smoking in cafes and bars if they have ventilation installed and are at least 50sq m (538sq ft) in area.
