What is MonaVie RVL?

As waistlines continue to expand in the Western world, the latest solution to the problem is about to hit the shelves. MonaVie RVL is a weight loss system designed to spur weight loss while providing essential nutritional support. Combining a nutrition shake mix with a nutrition bar and a dietary supplement, Monavie RVL claims to provide the nutritional support and satiety that is lacking in other low calorie diets.

The Diet System
The plan has the user take a scoop of the shake mix in the morning and mix it with either water or milk. Some fruit or a vegetable may be added to round out breakfast. The total calories are about half of what a normal meal would be, and that is essentially how the weight loss will occur. Mid-morning will be part or a whole nutrition bar. This too is low calorie, but Monavie claims that the nutritionally dense bar will satisfy hunger until lunch. It contains acai, which will help to curb hunger, but it is unknown just how much is needed for that to occur.

Mid-afternoon finds another nutrition bar or the rest of the bar that was not eaten in the morning. At some point the dietary supplement should be taken to ostensibly accelerate the metabolism, reduce body fat and burn more calories. On such a low calorie diet, a supplement that can do all those things is critical, and Monavie boasts a proprietary blend that will do just that. The recommended dinner is a balanced meal of no more than 500-600 calories. They also recommend 30 minutes of physical activity a day.

Monavie RVL V.S. A Low Calorie Diet
If the calorie content is any indicator, the Monavie RVL plan works out to less than 1500 calories per day. Although their nutritional products should provide adequate nutritional support, it is still a low calorie diet. The human body requires a certain number a calories per day just to maintain their current weight, and anything below that will affect the speed of the metabolism. Monavie RVL claims to have addressed that issue with their dietary supplement, something that is lacking in a conventional diet.

Summary
Monavie RVL is a low calorie diet system, designed to help users lose weight without sacrificing nutrition. Whether it is effective or not remains to be seen.

After 23 Years in Coma

A man presumed to have been in a deep coma for 23 years has spoken of his "second birth" after doctors realised that he had been fully conscious all along but unable to communicate.

Rom Houben, 46, was paralysed in a car accident that left him in what doctors thought was a persistent vegetative state. In fact he remained aware of his surroundings and could hear medical staff gradually give up hope on him.

Researchers using new scanning techniques discovered that his brain was still active and trained him to use his right forefinger to express himself on a specially adapted keyboard.

His case is being highlighted in his native Belgium by doctors who are pioneering new ways of understanding coma victims, hundreds of whom around the world could be conscious but locked in paralysis – and, unlike a true coma patient, able to feel pain.

"All that time I just literally dreamt of a better life. Frustration is too small a word to describe what I felt."

Mr Houben, an engineering student and martial arts expert, had been written off as in an "extinct" state after he was seriously injured in a car crash in 1983.

He "woke up" three years ago thanks to coma specialists at the University of Liege who have spoken about the case for the first time to try to draw attention to the condition and save other misdiagnosed patients.

Mr Houben recalled the terrifying realisation after he came round from his accident when he knew that he had lost complete control of his body – but no one knew that he was fully conscious.

"I screamed, but there was nothing to hear," he told the German magazine Der Speigel.

Dry Eyes

There are different couses of dry eyes including the natural aging process, especially menopause, side effects of certain medications such as antihistamines and birth control pills or certain diseases that affect the ability to make tears, such as Sjogren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and collagen vascular diseases.

How the diseas is treated?

Artificial tear drops and ointments. The use of artificial teardrops is the primary treatment for dry eye. Artificial teardrops are available over the counter. No one drop works for everyone, so you might have to experiment to find the drop that works for you. If you have chronic dry eye, it is important to use the drops even when your eyes feel fine, to keep them lubricated. If your eyes dry out while you sleep, you can use a thicker lubricant, such as an ointment, at night.

Temporary punctal occlusion. Sometimes it is necessary to close the ducts that drain tears out of the eye. This is first done via a painless test where a plug that will dissolve over a few days is inserted into the tear drain of the lower eyelid to determine whether permanent plugs can provide an adequate supply of tears.

Permanent punctal occlusion. If temporary plugging of the tear drains works well, then silicone plugs (punctal occlusion) may be used. The plugs will hold tears around the eyes as long as they are in place. They can be removed. Rarely, the plugs may come out spontaneously or migrate down the tear drain. Many patients find that the plugs improve comfort and reduce the need for artificial tears.

Hair loss causes

Do you know that a cause of hair loss may be:
1. sudden physical or emotional stress that is one-half to three-quarters of the hair throughout your scalp to shed (called Telogen effluvium). You will notice hair coming out in handfuls while you shampoo, comb, or run your hands through your hair. You may not notice this for weeks to months after the episode of stress. The hair shedding will decrease over 6 - 8 months.

2.High fever or severe infection
3.Childbirth
4.Major surgery, major illness, sudden blood loss
5.Severe emotional stress
6.Crash diets, especially those that do not contain enough protein
Also a number of medications, including retinoids, birth control pills, beta-blockers, certain antidepressants, NSAIDs (including iburpofen) and calcium channel blockers

Some women ages 30 - 60 may notice a thinning of the hair that affects the entire scalp. The hair loss may be heavier at first, and then gradually slow or stop. There is no known cause for this type of hair loss.

What's high and low fat food

Want to know is a food you are going to eat high in fat? Just look at the label to see how much fat a food contains. Generally the label will say how many grams (g) of fat there are in 100g of the food. What's high and what's low?

High is more than 20g fat per 100g
Low is 3g fat or less per 100g

If the amount of fat per 100g is in between these figures, then that is a medium level of fat.

Saturated fat - what's high and what's low?

High is more than 5g saturates per 100g
Low is 1.5g saturates or less per 100g

If the amount of saturates per 100g is in between these figures, then that is a medium level of saturated fat.

Remember that the amount you eat of a particular food affects how much fat you will get from it.

Try to choose more foods that are low in fat and cut down on foods that are high in fat.

New danger semi-pathogenic fungus detected

In the Canadian province of British Columbia and north-western U.S. states recorded the spread of new strains of the tropical semi-pathogenic fungus that can affect the lungs and brain of man until death. Cryptococcus gattii was first discovered in Australia. It was later revealed that he is quite common in tropical areas of Africa.

Cryptococcus gattii causes life-threatening infection of the pulmonary and central nervous systems in hosts with normal immunity and traditionally has been considered to be restricted geographically to tropical and subtropical climates. The recent outbreak of C. gattii in the temperate climate of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, led to a collaborative investigation. The objectives of the current study were to ascertain the environmental source of the outbreak infections, survey the molecular types of the outbreak and environmental cryptococcal isolates, and determine the extent of genetic diversity among the isolates. PCR-fingerprinting and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) were used to examine the genotypes, and mating assays were performed to determine the mating type of the isolates.

All outbreak and environmental isolates belonged to C. gattii. Concordant results were obtained by using PCR-fingerprinting and AFLP analysis. The vast majority of clinical and veterinary infections were caused by isolates of the molecular type VGII/AFLP6, but two were caused by molecular type VGI/AFLP4. All environmental isolates belonged to molecular type VGII/AFLP6. Two or three subtypes were observed within VGII/AFLP6 among outbreak and environmental isolates. All mating-competent isolates were of the α-mating type. The emergence of this usually tropical pathogen on Vancouver Island highlights the changing distribution of this genotype and emphasizes the importance of an ongoing collaborative effort to monitor the global epidemiology of this yeast.

Whitening Teath

Every time when you get your picture taken, you hear "Say cheese! Smile!" So you do — you open your mouth and show your teeth. So, how to whiten your teeth naturally, are there recipes that can help you on the way?

There are home whitening methods and you can find them online but very often it does not constitute medical advice, then before you try to use some of them please see your doctor to get medical advice, it’s important! Well, one of the metods is based on malic acid, which acts as an astringent to remove surface discoloration. Combined with baking soda, strawberries become a natural tooth-cleanser, buffing away stains from wine, coffee, and dark sodas. I repeat ones more, it’s no replacement for a bleaching treatment at your dentist’s office, “this is a fast, cheap way to brighten your smile,” says Adina Carrel, DMD, a dentist in private practice at Manhattan Dental Arts in New York. “Be careful not to use this too often, though, as the acid could damage the enamel on your teeth.”

You need:
1 ripe strawberry
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking soda mix. Rinse. (A little floss will help get rid of any strawberry seeds.)
