Best Recipe for a Longer Life.

The European Heart Journal study asserts that a little alcohol can be healthy. Have anybody doubt of that? Everybody knows that dozen alcohols is great deal and Danish researches have confirmed that a little alcohol combined with a healthy active lifestyle may be the best recipe for a longer life. They found that people who led an active lifestyle were less prone to heart disease - but the risk was cut still further if they drank moderately.

The researchers followed nearly 12,000 men and women for nearly 20 years, during which 1,242 died from ischemic heart disease (IHD).
Overall, they found people who did not drink or take any exercise had the highest risk of heart disease - 49% higher than people who either drank, exercised or did both. When comparing people who took similar levels of exercise, they found that those who drank moderately - one to 14 units of alcohol a week - were around 30% less likely to develop heart disease than non-drinkers.

This finding held good for people who were completely inactive, through to those who took vigorous regular exercise - with the overall risk declining as exercise levels increased. Non-drinkers who were physically active had a 31%-33% reduced risk of IHD compared to physically inactive non-drinkers. But their reduced risk was dwarfed by physically active people who drank at least one drink a week - their risk was up to 50% lower than that of physically inactive non-drinkers.

However, experts warned people should not be encouraged to drink, as too much alcohol can be very damaging.

Clones Abound in Nature.

There is no secret in that that agriculture companies and farmers are ready to turn cloning into a routine tool of production agriculture at any moment. Last year the prestigious National Research Council was asked to study foods made from cloned animals. The council, an independent group that advises the government on scientific issues, concluded that no evidence that meat or milk derived from healthy cloned farm animals can harm people.

There are two main questions we need the answer. Are the animals themselves healthy, and are the products nutritionally indistinguishable from those produced by non-cloned animals?
By its very definition, a successfully cloned animal should be no different from the original animal whose DNA was used to create it.
But the technology hasn't been perfected, meaning many attempts end in birth defects. The FDA acknowledged concern about the animals' welfare in an 11-page summary of its initial review, to be posted on the agency's Web site Friday.

From Science Fiction to Fact
Clones abound in nature, including human identical twins. Scientists created artificial clones from embryo cells starting in 1894, but adult mammals weren't cloned until 1996. Farm animals have been cloned by the hundreds recently, and companies want to use them in food production. Mammal cloning milestones:

1996: Dolly the sheep (made public in 1997)
1998: Mice, cattle
1999: Goats
2000: Pigs cloned; using mice, clones of clones are produced
2002: Rabbits, cats
2003: Horses, rats
2004: Adult human cloned to create embryos, which are destroyed to extract cells
2005: Dog

Ban on Smoking.

Tobacco is the only product that kills people when used as the manufacturer intends. Globally, 1.1 billion people smoke. Each year tobacco causes some four million
premature deaths. By the year 2030, tobacco is likely to be the world’s leading cause of death and disability killing more than 10 million people annually and claiming more lives than HIV, tuberculosis, motor vehicle accidents, suicide and homicide combined. Đ•hat is the real truth about tobacco smoking.

Ireland was the first European country to implement a comprehensive ban on smoking in public places in March 2004. MPs have been voted by a huge margin to ban smoking from all pubs and private members' clubs in England at 2006. Now according to BBC smoking has banned in bars in the capitals of France and Germany. Eight German states, including Berlin, have ushered in 2008 declaring their pubs and restaurants smoke-free. Almost a third of Germans smoke and the authorities in Berlin have decided not to enforce the restrictions actively for the first six months. In France, a law forbidding smoking in public places has now been extended to bars, cafes and hotels. The French health ministry allowed smokers a 24-hour "grace" period for the New Year festivities in a gesture of "tolerance". By the way any smoker caught flouting the ban thereafter can be fined up to 450 euros (£332; $662), while those who turn a blind eye to smokers on their premises can be fined up to 750 euros.

Greece has the highest proportion of adult smokers in Europe - 45%
Norway followed soon after, but allowed a smokers' corner in workplaces
Italy banned workplace smoking in January 2005 and Naples and Verona have made smoking illegal in public parks
Belgium allows smoking in cafes and bars if they have ventilation installed and are at least 50sq m (538sq ft) in area.
